Steelheart (Reckoners, #1)Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book is basically a superhero comic book in written form, but with a bit of a twist: There are no superheroes, only supervillains. Maybe it’s been done before, but not often, and I thought it was really well executed. The pace was fast, it was intriguing trying to figure out the titular character’s weakness, and had enough twists to keep it fresh, even if a lot of superpowers have been used elsewhere before. Although the book has a satisfying ending, it is only the first in a series, and left enough at the end to leave you wanting more. The moral questions relating to what would happen if supervillains took over the world and there was no one courageous enough to fight them gave it added depth. But like many books, it focuses on a single group of friends and little is seen outside of their circle, so sometimes it feels that world is populated with just them and the bad guys. Even still, I’ve seen this done worse in other books and it wasn’t much of an issue in this one. I’ve never read a Brandon Sanderson book that I haven’t liked and this is no exception. Since it’s for young adults, it’s a quick read. Great book.

I haven’t been posting a lot on this blog lately, but some exciting things are coming up. I’ve been busy with work, some larger projects, and finding out my wife is pregnant. This is for a project I’m beginning, but should have some updates every once in a while. Hopefully, soon there will be a new video to watch as well. Thanks for reading.
